The Rione Terra is the heart of the ancient Roman Puteoli, fully enhanced in its great archaeological value with a restoration that, in recent years, has also allowed its use by the public.
It is a tuff spur that with its 33 meters above sea level extends over the gulf between Nisida and Baia. Strabo also described it in the age of Augustus for its vital characteristics.
 
First urban settlement, acropolis, fortress, castrum and religious center, it retains evident traces of the road layout of 194 BC. As a result of bradyseism, he was evacuated on March 1970 and was then subject of an important recovery intervention. The visit of the archaeological itinerary starts from a hall in wide Sedile di Porta and, after a detour to the underground rooms of Palace Migliaresi , proceed along a large decuman, flanked by tabernae, which intersects with a narrow hinge. At the intersection there is the entrance to the public baths which, from a steep staircase, led to the upper floor. The pedestrianization work, still clearly visible, dates back to the Neronian period, with the creation of a portico on the left side that narrows the roadway. There are numerous cisterns for collecting rainwater, which is essential for the life of the citadel. The state of conservation of the urban structure, the building stratification, the perfect sewage system, the pistrinum with several rooms (shop of a miller-baker), with the millstones still intact, the small rooms of what was perhaps a brothel or a hostel of the time.
