Like ceramics, a characteristic production since the Middle-Age to which a must-see museum has been dedicated in the biggest museum of Borgo Castello, on the hill which dominates the valley of Ofanto. There, where since the  century the Norman castle of Caletrum used to stand, destroyed by an earthquake in 1694. On its ruins, one of the biggest and suggestive old towns of Irpinia was built within the space of few decades, using the bastions and the still standing walls, and taking advantage of the enormous quantity of materials available. Occupied after the Italian unification by Carmine Crocco’s army, the “brigands’ general”. But the history changed again in 1980 with the seism which destroyed the upper part of the village, then totally acquired.
