The harmony of the landscape enclosed in one glance. It is the gift that an ancient route reserves for those who reach the top of Cairano’s cliff.

There, at about eight hundred meters high, the wind is a faithful companion. And never silent. His voice resonates above Ofanto’s valley, blows among the surrounding hills, reaches the chain of mountains standing out on the horizon. And, recently, music has been made with it. Thanks to an organ. The only one in the world where the sound is son of the wind.

It was June 2019 when, on the top of the cliff, three groups of seven zinc and titanium rods were installed. From the highest, reaching five meters in height and twenty centimeters in diameter, to the smallest of one and a half meters in height and with just nine centimeters in diameter. They are installed on hollow wooden bases where the wind enters before penetrating the pipes, where its  always changing sound, is transformed into chords. An instrument made by the organ builder Claudio Pinchi, who gave to it special characteristics so that it can be activated by the wind. In fact, Cairano organ only started playing in August 2020.

An integral part of the hamlet recovery project, the wind organ is perfectly integrated into the landscape and enhances its beauty and charm. Thus, on Cairano’s cliff, nature composes symphonies always new and unrepeatable.
